Founded June 2020, WhirlWind Dance has quickly grown into an award-winning contemporary dance company dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and community engagement. In the past five years, the company has produced over 30 shows, performed in more than 20 venues, and received over $200k, bringing contemporary dance to diverse audiences.
WhirlWind provides unique professional opportunities, including choreographic fellowships awarded to six choreographers nationwide, fostering emerging talent and creative voices. In 2023, the company won 2nd place at the Palm Desert Choreography Festival earning $8,000 in recognition of its artistic excellence.
Through The WyND Program, WhirlWind connects professional dancers, guest artists, and young artists, offering hands-on training, mentorship, and collaborative performance experiences. The company actively partners with organizations, including a three-year collaboration with the Ohio Wildlife Center, raising awareness for animals and supporting conservation efforts.
WhirlWind strives to create performances in unique and unexpected venues, providing audiences with memorable, immersive experiences that bring contemporary dance to life. Looking ahead, the company is planning the RUN FOR THE ARTS 5K in April 2026, raising funds to expand WhirlWind’s presence in the Columbus arts community, a vital part of Columbus’ cultural landscape.
